Members attend Envirothon Training Day

By: Mr. Bartel

On November 6th, our FFA members attended the Kansas Envirothon training day hosted by Kansas Envirothon and Kansas NRCS. Presenters from across the state guided students in learning more about the issues affecting the areas of Wildlife Management, Soils and Land Usage, Aquatic Ecology, Forestry and Woodlot Management, and Rangeland Management. This was a great day of focused learning over subjects that greatly impact everyone daily.

At the training, students also began to prepare for the Envirothon competition, a showcase of the student’s knowledge and testing group communication skills. The Envirothon will be held throughout the state in regional and a state competition with only one team being able to compete nationally later this coming spring. Members who attended this training included Pierson Cyphers, Tyson Carlson, Brodyn King, Thayne Gross, Kannon Segenhagen, Tucker Terry, and Grant Warner.

“Fruit Sales time!!!” By: Dylan Anderson

We all love to hear it! The chapter kicked-off their annual chapter fundraiser on October 10. Each year, the members of the chapter, around the middle of October, go out and ask the local community to support the Holton chapter by buying fruit, cookies, and other delicious goodies. Every year, the members have a goal of selling 15 items and we had 22 members meet that goal with a few short by just one or two items! The chapter ended up selling 779 items making our sales 41 items higher from last year! Great job Holton! Remember, items will be delivered on the fourth of December!

Madeline Bontrager, Jacob Huyett, Jace Huyett, and Lucas White represented their chapter in the Nursery and Landscape competition, securing a remarkable sixth-place finish in the nation. Jacob, Jace, and Lucas achieved Gold Division recognition, while Madeline placed in the Silver Division. Jacob Huyett also ended up placing 4th in the Nation as an individualist.

Lora Larison (Sheep Entrepreneurship) and Delaney New (Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship) stood out as finalists in their proficiency awards, a testament to their dedication and expertise in their chosen areas. Elisa Bartel proudly performed with the National FFA Band for the second consecutive year, displaying her musical talents on the flute.

Adding to the chapter's achievements, Katina Bartel was honored with the prestigious American Degree, one of the highest accolades in the FFA organization. Addison and Julie Bontrager also attended the convention, further contributing to their chapter's presence and success.

October Chapter Meeting

By: Addison Bontrager

The chapter was able to sneak in a regular meeting for the month of October on October 15th in the midst of everything else going on! Officer reports were given and then new business followed that. The chapter discussed Fruit Sales incentives and doing a highway clean up. After all new business was discussed, the chapter enjoyed refreshments and laughing with fellow FFA members. Below are the minutes for the October meeting:
