District Meats Judging at Easton
On February 4th, 2019 the Holton FFA Chapter attended District meats judging in Easton, Kansas. It was an overall great day with lots of newcomers giving it a try. With the help of Mr. Koehlmoos being on a state meats judging team he helped people to gain a lot more knowledge. The Holton A Team placed 3rd overall with Alexys Campbell 5th, and Hope Kepert 9th. B Team placed 2nd overall at the meats CDE with Amariah Allen 8th, Conner Collins 9th and Ahnna Mellenbruch 3rd. Thank you to everybody who gave this a shot and put in the effort to do well!
JCLA Meal
At the Jackson County Livestock Association Banquet Holton, Jackson Heights and Royal Valley FFA members got together to serve a delicious meal to the association members. Jackson Heights members served the meal to start the night and Holton and Royal Valley students got participants water and helped them to their seats as well as picked up finished plates and refilled drinks. After dinner, the meeting began and we FFA members cleaned the kitchen and tables that we could to not interrupt the meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, everybody helped to get the building ready to have some fun. The dance began and so did the fun, after some hard work it was nice to relax, talk and dance with our fellow FFA members. Overall this was a very fun event to attend and be apart of.
National FFA Week
To better plan around the high school schedule, the chapter pushed back FFA Week to February 22nd - March 1st. The chapter members participated in different activities throughout the week to show their support for FFA. On Friday the 22nd, members attended the Western Farm Show in Kansas City to kickoff FFA Week. Attending members also donated canned food items while at the expo. While attending the Western Farm Show, members were able to meet with different industry workers, post-secondary schools, and were even able to listen to remakes from Erica Baier, 2017-2018 National FFA Secretary. The days of FFA Week continued on the 25th, when FFA members posted pictures of their SAE projects and used the hashtag #SAESelfie. Then, on the 26th members worn FFA shirts and attire to school to show their support. The rest of the week included a chapter breakfast at Your Place or Mine and agriculture trivia in the ag room. FFA Week was a fun way to show support for the national organization and grow as a chapter.
