December E-update

Movie Night

Jackson Heights FFA officer team invited the Holton FFA chapter members to attend the FFA Fun night that they hosted Wednesday, December 18, 2013 where we watched a movie and enjoyed some snacks in the Jackson Heights ag shop. Twelve Holton FFA members and Mr. Larison attended.  We appreciated the invite.

Winter CDE Results

Public Speaking and Job Interview CDE's were held in Marysville on December 12. We placed 2nd overall as a chapter and qualified 5 speakers for State. Also, we swept the freshmen speaking rooms and dominated the extra upperclassmen division. Everyone in the top 5 received medals. GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE!!! Way to end the semester strong.

Fruit Sales

This year the Holton FFA chapter did fruit sales like we do every year. This year we sold 1,610 items as a whole. We would like to thank all the members for working so hard on selling fruit AND MOST IMPORTANTLY the community that purchased our products!

Sammie's Hammies - State SAE Grant Winner

Samantha Beauchamp sent off an application for a National SAE Grant in Animal Systems and Swine Production. She unfortunately did not receive either of these grants, however the applications were sent to the Kansas FFA Foundation and four people were chosen for a $500 grant. Beauchamp was one of the four that was selected. This grant will be used for Samantha’s pig business, “Sammies Hammies”. 

Speech and Creed Showcase

On December 8th we hosted our annual Speech and Creed showcase. This year though, we tried something different. Instead of presenting our speeches in front of a crowd we presented it in front of different community members who then critiqued our speeches and our way of presenting it. We had a great turnout of 26 members. We would like to thank all of the people who volunteered their time and the Alumni for providing us with snacks.

Prepared Pen Pals

A huge thanks to the community volunteers that stepped up to be a "Pen Pal" with some of our speakers this year. We were able to match 15 members and pen pals to give students another perspective in their speech writing and revising process.  THANK YOU!

Larison Receives Teaching Award

Jason Larison receives the NAAE Outstanding Teacher Award in Las Vegas on December 4^th. Larison will be receiving a 2014 Toyota Tundra for a year sometime this spring. Huge thanks to Toyota for sponsoring this event.



As a part of the teaching award, Mr. Larison had a chance to attend the NAAE Annual Convention in Las Vegas.  He got to attend inservice training, participate in the Agriscience Ambassador national training, and many other activities.
