80th ANNIVERSARY OF HOLTON FFA
  • The 2016-17 school year kicks off the 80th year of FFA at Holton High School. Enrollment is up and members have some exciting plans for the year. Keep checking in as we showcase our chapter and celebrate 80 Years of Growing Leaders, Building Communities, and Strengthening Agriculture. WELCOME BACK FOR ANOTHER OUTSTANDING YEAR!
This news article from 1937 talks about the excitement of the new Ag building and program in its first year in Holton. This building was located west of the high school and was the home of the Agriculture Department and FFA Chapter from 1936 to 1994.

Some activities take 5 minutes while others make take a whole afternoon, but the main goal is to get out and explore, visit, and LEARN. Alex and Josh tour Epler Farms down in SE Kansas to check another item off their Ag Bucket List. This grain cart has the capacity of one entire semi trailer.
Have you ever visited a seed variety demonstration plot? If not, now is the time. Pretty cool to see first hand the differences in some of the seed varieties available this close to harvest.
FFA POINTS TRIP TO KC
  • On August 9th, our "most active members" from last year headed out on our 2016 Points Trip.  The trip included a behind the scenes tour of the Topeka Zoo's tiger exhibit and veterinary hospital, a Royals Game, and some tailgating with fresh grilled corn and brats at the stadium. Plans are already being made for points trip 2017 - participate in activities and come to meetings to give you the opportunity to join us next year.

LARISON ATTENDS STATE AG TEACHERS CONFERENCE

  • On July 31 through August 2, Mr. Larison joined Career and Technical Education teachers from around the state at the 2016 K-ACTE Summer Conference. During that time he received inservice training, went to workshops over new topics we can use in the Ag Ed program, and networked with Ag teachers from all across Kansas.

Ag Teacher's conference kicked off with Dr. Randy Watson sharing about the Kansas CAN vision.

ENVIROTHON TEAM - Oh Canada!
FFA OFFICER RETREAT
  • On July 20 and 21, our leadership team headed to Manhattan to for officer retreat. We learned a lot about our roles as team members and making plans for the upcoming year. One of the biggest highlights was the participating in the KSU challenge course where members did parts of the high ropes course and conquered a lot of fears along the way. The team got a great start on the 2016-17 program of activities and also kicked off our FFA "Habitudes" study on leadership.
Lots of team building went on at the 2016 Local Officer Retreat.  The KSU Challenge Course was a favorite.

You want me to stand on the pole 30 feet in the air and then jump out and slap that ball? You have got to be kidding!
